Strike a blow against imperialism everywhere!
International Women's Alliance's message on
International Working Women's Day 2022
The International Women’s Alliance, a global grassroots women’s alliance founded in 2010 in Montreal, Canada, salutes International Working Women’s Day. IWWD was initiated at a socialist conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Clara Zetkin, a leader of the left wing of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) and head of their International Women’s Secretariat. The SPD, which had 82,000 women members in 1910, promoted women’s rights, including the right to organize politically and vote.
Since that founding, IWWD has been celebrated and commemorated by women and oppressed genders globally with marches, rallies, strikes, shut-downs, sit-ins and more in rich and poor countries in resistance to capitalism, fascism and imperialism -- all forms of class oppression.
We are inspired by women workers inside the U.S. – the belly of the beast – who are in the forefront of union organizing against transnational behemoths like Amazon, Starbucks and Google. These historic drives help strike a blow to imperialism everywhere.
Our alliance is in solidarity with all women be they farmers, low-wage workers, immigrants, indigenous, migrants, refugees, single parents, unemployed, houseless, seniors, youth, people with disabilities, survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence and police violence, low-income individuals, LGBTQ2+, incarcerated, no matter their age, nationality and country.
If capitalist exploitation and war know no borders, the struggle for liberation and self-determination knows no borders. IWWD helps to reaffirm our perspective of extending a hand of anti-imperialist, anti-patriarchal, anti-fascist and anti-racist solidarity to ALL women and their communities to build class-wide, global unity until all forms of exploitation, inequality and oppression are eradicated once and for all.
Long Live the Spirit of International Working Women’s Day!
