International Women’s Alliance (IWA) participates in the People’s Global Camp
JUNK WTO! Women Resist Imperialist Globalization!
BALI, Indonesia – The International Women’s Alliance (IWA) a global alliance of grassroots women’s organizations and networks today joined the march organized by the Indonesian People’s Alliance (IPA) to open the People’s Global Camp, in time for the 9th Ministerial Conference of the WTO.
The ministerial conference, originally reported to have broken down, is still set to be railroaded in the face of the strong assertion of India for more protection for their farmers and those of other poor countries.
“Imperialist countries led by the United States is hellbent on imposing its interests. It insists on sanctions against food and agricultural subsidies for poor countries while maintaining the heavy subsidies of the farm sectors in the developed countries.” says Liza Maza, IWA Chairperson.
She also said, “Women who are the world’s primary food producers and who comprise majority of the world’s hungry will be adversely affected by the WTO sanctions against developing countries that give agricultural and food subsidies.”
IWA maintains that the neoliberal policies of liberalization, deregulation, and privatization being peddled by the WTO under the leadership of the US and other developed countries has, in fact, caused global hunger. #
